David R. Proctor. Born: 4-18-56 in Nashville, TN. Attended my first Vandy game at the age of 6 or 7 as my father and I attended a Vandy-Navy game. The year was in the early 1960s and I was hooked. After that I remember staying up with my dad to listen to Clyde Lee, Snake Grace, John Ed Miller, and company kicking butt in the SEC roundball circuit. I grew up loving black and gold, hating all things orange, and wanting nothing in life but a degree from VU. In the mid to late 1960s, my best friend and I had football season tickets in the endzone under the scoreboard for 4-5 years. No winning seasons, but some great games and I did get to catch the extra point (# 14) in the 1969 win over Alabama. In 1973-74, as a senior in high school, I lived and died with VBK and the F troop as they won the SEC in basketball. Got to see every home game except Kentucky and Tennessee (got the tickets from a friend who only wanted to see 2 games each year). In 1974 my first dream came true as I traveled to the Peach bowl to see an exciting but disappointing 6-6 tie with Texas Tech. My second dream came true in 1978--my B.A. from VU. Then on to law school, tax school and a move with a new bride to Montgomery, AL. We traveled to Nashville 6 times each fall to see the football games for seven years, until the kids got too big. Now I am relagated to listening on the radio or watching the Headline News scroll to see who wins. I am still waiting on dreams 3 and 4: National championships in BB and FB. Do I think it's impossible? Not on your life. If a poor kid like me from east Nashville can get through Vanderbilt, then Vanderbilt can take it all. Goal 5? Retire in 23 years and move back to Nashville so I can put Vandy Lance to shame!bio main
