It really does seem like this year the amount of talent in the portal is way above where it was last season for some reason. we are seeing not only starters from blue blood programs, but also top players from high majors in the portal.

Is it true he made 388K in NIL $$ last season?
How much is he going for this time? Or he could go to the G-League for less.

Could that be from the the number of coaching changes in the majors?
Re: The non-Belmont related portal thread
Maybe - but there are a lot of players moving from teams that have no coaching changes - Taylor from aTm, Mitchell from Duke, Aidoo from UT to name a few were at programs that are very stable and unlikely lacking resources to keep those players around.dorefrom88 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 12, 2024 5:17 amCould that be from the the number of coaching changes in the majors?
Re: The non-Belmont related portal thread
It does seem that the mass movement this year into the portal has much to do with the players trying to make more money. The kids have every right to do so, everyone else involved is cashing in so why not them--after all they are the talent. Nevertheless at what point do we lose the "college" from college basketball? Seems that we're fast approaching that rubicon.
Would be great if the leadership in college sports, particularly D-1 power conferences, figured out a way to split the difference. (As an aside, I find the world fast moving without me. Saw that VU is looking to set up a large campus in West Palm Beach, Florida--I mean what the hell?)

That is probably some of it, but a lot of the players in the portal started after 2021 and are really good players.bhoyal wrote: ↑Fri Apr 12, 2024 10:05 amIsn't this the end of the "Covid year exception" - ?? I wouldn’t be at all surprised if many of those guys end up back with their programs. I suspect Ty Lawrence’s move last year was made to establish his NIL value, but he had every intention of returning to VU. Seems a likely similar play for many of these guys. We’ll see.

I heard an interesting discussion on radio today speculating that many players are putting their names in the portal as a way of measuring their market value.
Surely there's a better way to do this.
