MSU Game 2
For fan discussion of the glorious Vanderbilt Commodore baseball program.
Re: MSU Game 2
Man, there's something wrong with the rules when you can get hit in the face by a pitch and it's called a strike. Correctly ruled, I believe, but wow. 3rd time this year it's happened to Vandy hitters.
Re: MSU Game 2
Davis never pulled his bat back, actually offered it toward the pitch. Unfortunately, that made it a strike and the HBP (somewhere in face, it looked) therefore never happened.
Re: MSU Game 2
Yeah, I actually think it wasn’t meant as an offer but more of an “oh god this is coming at my face” attempt to block the ball. But per the rules it’s a strike.
Re: MSU Game 2
I don't get it, most people at least try to get out of the way of a ball coming at their head. Vandy guys seem to try to hit it. Must be something Baxter teaches.

Re: MSU Game 2
Some really questionable decisions today.
Why pull Seiber for Carter? Carter got bombed versus Florida last outing. Why insert him in this situation where a guy sitting on a fastball ices the game. Let him start the inning if you’re bringing him. Set up to fail.
Why not play small ball - granted Davis got hit trying. But not moving runners killed us today. Why not have someone who can and will bunt in the bottom of the lineup?
And as was noted earlier, batting coach needs to tell guys to stop swinging - or at least expect sliders when guy is throwing them 75%.
I’m usually not critical of coaching - but this was not just uninspired decisions, it was a giveaway. And we have problems with pitching availability tomorrow… A really costly performance.
